Under the weight of light – Fuerteventura

Under the weight of light / Fuerteventura

And I do understand now why our ancestors have put the heavens in the sky. Here – close to the Ecuadorean line – the sky is so close, yet you can see the clouds stepping one into the other, above and beyond it. Here the midday sun crushes you and makes you feel tortured in your insignificance.
Such majestic blue sky seems to embrace your mind in a stunning yet terrifying way. You can’t really get bored by staring at it, yet, you perceive its danger. A subtle but infinite power, capable of subjecting you to its will.
You don’t belong to yourself anymore, you are just whatever small particle floating around, with the great chance of staring to a senseless and infinite beauty.
The light violently reaches the ground and highlights stripes of rocky and sandy land. A siren sings to the eyes, and tears pour abundantly in stupor.
A collision of emotions makes you feel captivated by the landscape, and, eventually, you find yourself contemplating the whole universe from a little tiny spot that suddenly feels overwhelmingly vast.
